Daniel “Dan” Mee is a Bates Testifying Expert as well as the President of Dillon Capital Advisors, a private consulting, investment, and advisory firm where he advises companies on strategic planning, capital allocation, and capital raises. Current assignments involve loan sale advisory, deploying blockchain technology to affect the tokenization of real assets in addition to financing opportunities in cannabis-related businesses. Dan is an active expert witness who provides testimony on real estate interest rates, loan sales, and other real estate and capital markets-related topics.
Before joining Bates, Dan was Co-President and Chief Operating Officer at a publicly traded commercial mortgage real estate investment trust (REIT). That REIT was externally managed by The RMR Group, an alternative investment advisor and family office with about $40 billion in AUM with five publicly traded and two public and two private companies. He also served as Senior Vice President at RMR and sat on its 20-person Senior Leadership Committee. Dan was primarily responsible for the commercial real estate debt investment portfolio. He has led risk management, managed Company operations and asset management, and sat on an Investment Committee. He played a central role in the REIT’s execution of a blind pool initial public offering.
Dan co-founded Tremont Realty Capital (TRC). TRC was a privately held alternative investment management and advisory company. He grew TRC into an SEC-Registered Investment Advisor with 30 employees in 10 offices across the United States at its peak and a managed account track record in excess of $1 billion—including two million SF of CRE. His responsibilities included strategy development and implementation, general management, equity and debt capital raises, asset management, and investor relations.
In 2016, Dan sold TRC to The RMR Group. Prior to forming TRC, Dan was a senior officer with several boutique financial firms in Boston and New York. He helped grow the companies by recruiting staff and sourcing investments. Earlier in his career Dan led a major assets group at the FDIC where he was responsible for a $2 billion portfolio. Here, he worked out large complex and distressed investments that included many types of real estate and energy-related assets. He was also responsible for managing the asset side of failed bank balance sheets and teams of upwards of 250 employees during certain bank closings. Dan began his career at JP Morgan Chase Bank in New York City where he was credit trained and worked primarily in commercial and multi-family real estate construction finance throughout the United States.
Dan is a Director of The Cambridge Financial Group and Cambridge Savings Bank, a state-chartered bank founded in 1834 with more than $6 billion in assets. He is a frequent moderator, panelist, and lecturer at conferences and various universities on real estate, NFTs and capital markets topics. He has passed the Series 7 and 63 series exams and has been a licensed real estate broker for more than 25 years.
