Edmund “Ed” Rakowski is a Bates Testifying and Consulting Expert who resides in Long Island, New York. Ed became associated with Bates following a 37-year career with MetLife, Inc. in New York City. Although he spent almost his entire career with that one company, Ed worked in several positions focused on creating effective compliance and risk assessment programs for the sale, issuance, administration, and regulation of life insurance and annuity products for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and its affiliates. Starting his career in the personal life insurance claims department, his career spanned many roles on both the business and the compliance/legal sides of the company.
Ed has extensive experience managing professionals in organizations that identify and mitigate regulatory and business risk in the insurance industry. He is known as an expert in the sale, issuance, administration and regulation of individual life insurance and annuities. He worked closely with MetLife’s Law Department throughout his career, frequently providing advice and testimony for the company in litigation and at hearings and meetings with regulators as part of regulatory exams. While with MetLife, he provided testimony on behalf of MetLife as a 30(b)(6) witness and corporate representative at countless affidavits, trials, depositions and hearings over the years and was consulted frequently by in-house and outside counsel on ongoing legal matters and litigation.
Ed is an attorney who is admitted to practice in the State of New York. He volunteers to work with families facing mortgage foreclosures as part of the New York Unified Court System’s Attorney Emeritus Program. He was formerly a FINRA Registered Principal associated with those MetLife broker dealers responsible for its variable insurance products. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor degree from St John’s University School of Law.
