Lane is a Bates Testifying Expert who has worked in the energy & power sector for his entire career. Currently he is managing investment partnerships for growth with cutting edge technology companies in energy, power and environmental controls. He also serves as an advisor to X Machina Ventures, LLC, an investor in energy tech and transition.
Prior to his current endeavors, he entered government service joining the Energy Department in 2018 as Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Science. He was then unanimously confirmed by the US Senate as the Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy in the Energy Department. ARPA-E was created to develop and support cutting edge energy technology projects into technological innovations in batteries, oil and natural gas, nuclear energy and grid technology. While Director, the Scaleup Program was launched which assists select ARPA-E awardees in their launch into the commercial sector.
Prior to his government service and after law school, he spent five years with Hawkins, Delafield & Wood, a law firm based in New York City representing banks and investment banks in securities transactions primarily with power and energy companies. He then commenced a series of positions of increasing responsibility as Managing Director in the investment banking departments of Kidder Peabody, JPMorgan-Chase, Bank of America-Merrill Lynch, and Wells Fargo Securities, working primarily with power and energy clients. In addition, before joining the Energy Department, he founded and ran an investment advisory business focused on stock of regulated US utilities.
